Why Quality Matters in Aesthetics Training: The Truth About EQA, Standards, and Learner Protection

In an industry that is developing faster than ever, one thing has never been more important: quality assurance in aesthetics training.

At a-training, we have always held ourselves to a higher standard — and our latest External Quality Assurance (EQA) visit is further proof of that commitment. Since 2019, we have undergone six EQA inspections from our awarding body, and once again, we have achieved “Excellent” across the board.

That level of consistency does not happen by accident. It comes from building our qualifications properly, running our centre correctly, and putting learners first every single time.

But while we are proud of our own results, there is a wider issue in the industry that can no longer be ignored.

The Industry Has a Quality Problem — and Learners Are Paying the Price

In just one week, we received 22 messages from learners training with other providers.
The stories are almost identical:

  • Work not being marked

  • No feedback

  • No progress

  • No access to assessors

  • No movement toward the qualification they paid for

This isn’t acceptable.
This isn’t what regulated training looks like.
And it certainly isn’t aligned with what awarding bodies expect.

The purpose of putting this Level 7 qualification onto the RQF back in 2019 was clear:
To create a consistent, transparent standard that both medics and non-medics could achieve at the same level.

The qualification was built to raise the bar — not to be watered down by centres cutting corners, ignoring quality processes, or failing to protect their learners.

It’s Time to Lift the Lid on Poor-Quality Training

For too long, some training centres have operated behind closed doors, knowing that most learners do not understand the quality assurance process or their rights within it.

That needs to change.

If a centre is:

  • Not marking your work

  • Not providing assessment feedback

  • Not supporting your progress

  • Not delivering what their website promises

…then the learner is the one at risk — not the centre.

There is a clear and formal process to follow, and it starts with raising your concerns directly with the training centre.
If nothing changes, the next step is notifying the awarding body, who have a responsibility to ensure that:

  • The centre is compliant

  • The standards of the qualification are met

  • The learner receives fair treatment and support

Awarding bodies take this seriously.
And they should — because the integrity of the qualification depends on it.

Protecting Learners Protects the Entire Industry

Aesthetics is developing into a recognised professional discipline.
With regulation coming, public scrutiny increasing, and clinical standards tightening, the industry cannot afford low-quality training providers dragging everything backwards.

2026 will be a defining year.
For this industry to become the best version of itself, we must remove the dross, the shortcuts, and the centres who are not meeting their obligations.

And it starts with transparency.
With quality.
With holding providers accountable.
And with learners knowing their rights.

a-training’s Position: Excellence, Every Time

Our sixth consecutive Excellent EQA outcome demonstrates our long-standing commitment to:

  • Properly regulated qualifications

  • Accurate assessment and feedback

  • Robust internal quality assurance

  • Ethical, transparent training delivery

  • Protecting every learner who walks through our doors

We don’t take shortcuts.
We don’t cut corners.
We do things correctly because learners deserve it — and the industry needs it.

Final Word: Enough Is Enough

If you are a learner who has concerns about your training, it is time to act.
If you are a provider, it is time to raise your game.
If you are an awarding body, it is time to enforce the standards your qualification promises.

The future of aesthetics depends on it.
