Keogh concerns
Two new qualifications that will address concerns raised in the Keogh Review of Cosmetic Interventions and raise standards have been launched by the internationally recognised awarding organisation Qualifi.
The qualifications, the Level 5 Certificate in Aesthetic Practice and the Level 7 Certificate in Aesthetic Practice, have been written in line with Health Education England’s 2016 Qualifications Requirements for the Delivery of Cosmetic Procedures, The qualifications have been developed to meet Ofqual’s rigorous requirements for the structure and expression of regulated qualifications together with detailed requirements for those who will provide training, assessment and moderation.
These qualifications will provide high-quality learning programmes that will ensure practitioners are trained, qualified and competent to provide safe, effective and appropriate aesthetic treatments. The qualifications will also mean that practitioners are trained to work within the limits of their competence, while raising overall standards and allowing them to develop their careers and businesses.
Their launch comes after 12 months of development by a-training, a team of industry experts and Qualifi’s Qualification Development team and examiners.
Tiffany Tarrant, who led the development team at a-Training, said, ‘This is a long-awaited standard for the industry as a whole, and aesthetic practitioners in particular. The qualifications have been developed by representatives of the industry who are expert practitioners and trainers in this field, facilitated by experts in the specification and measurement of competence. This won’t just provide aesthetic professionals with official recognition of their skills, but quality assurance in what is still mostly an unregulated industry, ultimately protecting the client’.
She added, ‘Qualifi is the first awarding organisation to offer these qualifications to both medical and non-medical practitioners, and will raise professional standards across the whole of the aesthetic industry’.
